With the exception of foster care adoption, we offer every kind of home study you need to adopt in the US.
Private Domestic Home Study
This kind of home study is valid for a set amount of time according to state requirements (typically 12-24 months). However, if you're going to adopt across state lines, plan on needing a valid home study within the last 12 months. Prior to its expiration, a family can update their home study to continue their adoption journey. This process typically includes updated background checks, medical information, and employment/income verification. A home study update will also be necessary if there have been any major changes within home, finances, or family dynamic to remain home study active.

Step/Second Parent Home Study
This home study is designed for step or second parents and is requested by an attorney or ordered by the court. Like the Private Domestic Home Study, families can expect states to require background checks, medical information, employment/income verification, and a home visit with a home study professional. The primary difference is this type of home study highlights the step-parent or second parent as well as the soon-to-be adopted child and gives the family a chance to prove to the courts that the family is thriving. It is imperative that the home study meets state’s requirements and the home study professional is sensitive to the family’s history and needs, to ensure that a proper report is provided to the court.
Kinship Home Study
This home study is designed for family members or relatives and is requested by an attorney or ordered by the court. Like the Private Domestic Home Study you can expect the state to require background checks, medical information, employment/income verification, and a home visit with a home study professional. Similar to the step-parent or second-parent adoption home study, this report will highlight the current family dynamic and provide a chance to prove to the court their parenting abilities and family well-being. The child’s history and information regarding their biological parents will be included to provide a complete picture and recommendation to adopt. Like others, the home study must meet state requirements and the home study professional is sensitive to the family’s history, to ensure that a proper report is provided to the court.
